CloudFlare Startup Deals & Discounts

Cloudflare for Startups is an application-based program that pays usage-based bills with credits. Credits come in 3 tiers and last one year or until spent, whichever comes first. Cloudflare says it cannot approve extensions.

• $10k tier: bootstrapped or self-funded companies with under $1M raised, no minimum funding required.
• $100k tier: under $5M raised. Adds an account manager (case-dependent) and technical sessions with Cloudflare experts.
• $350k tier: $5M or more raised. Adds priority technical support and bi-weekly Solutions Architect office hours.

Across all tiers, the program page asks for a company founded within the last 10 years, funded up to Series B, building a technology product, with a live public website. Agencies, consultancies, MSPs, resellers, personal blogs and educational institutions are out.

Credits pay for Workers, Durable Objects, Workflows, D1, Queues, Pages, Images and more. Two caps apply: R2 is covered up to $10,000, and Workers AI up to $2,500, $10,000 or $50,000 by tier. AI Gateway is temporarily not covered, and domain registration, premium network services and enterprise add-ons are excluded.

Next to the catalog. Akamai, which sells content delivery and application security, shows From $100 to $120,000 in credits. AWS lists $5,000 in Activate credits and, separately, up to $100K in credits with 25% to 65% off AWS expenses. Google Cloud lists $2,000 for 1 year if you never raised funds and $350,000 for 2 years if you did. Cloudflare's top tier matches Google Cloud's headline number but runs half as long.

Fits: a product with AI features and a lean team. Compute alone is cheap. Cloudflare's own example of a Worker serving 100 million requests a month at 7 ms of CPU each comes to $45.40, or $544.80 over a year, so even the smallest credit would take about 220 months to burn on that load. That leaves AI inference and storage, the two products with their own caps, as the likeliest places to spend a credit.

Fits: a company with a few domains and real security needs. Business lists at $200 a month on annual billing. Three domains for a year come to $7,200, and the program includes Pro and Business plans at no cost.

Skip: an agency or a services shop. The program excludes them, along with MSPs and resellers.

Skip: a team that mostly runs on another cloud. If Cloudflare would only sit in front of a simple site, the Free plan at $0 may be enough, and the credits would lapse after a year.

Skip: anything that leans on AI Gateway, domain registration or premium network services. Credits do not cover them today.

Plan the exit. At graduation, Enterprise domains not moved to a paid plan revert to Free, so budget for Pro or Business before the 12 months end.

Website plans, from Cloudflare's plans page: Free at $0, Pro at $20 a month billed annually or $25 monthly, Business at $200 annually or $250 monthly, and a custom-priced contract tier billed annually. Plans are chosen per domain. Developer products are metered on top:

• Workers Paid: $5 minimum a month per account, including 10 million requests and 30 million CPU milliseconds. Extra usage costs $0.30 per million requests and $0.02 per million CPU milliseconds.
• R2 Standard storage: $0.015 per GB-month, 10 GB-month free, no egress charges. Holding 10,000 GB (10 TB) costs about $150 a month.
• Workers AI: $0.011 per 1,000 Neurons. Llama 3.1 8B (fp8-fast) costs $0.045 per million input tokens and $0.384 per million output tokens.

Credit math. The Tier 3 Workers AI cap of $2,500 pays for about 5.83 billion input tokens plus 5.83 billion output tokens on that Llama model. Three Business domains cost $7,200 a year at list, and the program includes that plan at no cost.
