DigitalOcean's application-based startup program grants infrastructure credits for 12 months, plus free Standard-tier paid support for 15 months, one-on-one sessions with its product managers and engineers, and a founder community. The credit amount is not fixed: the page says it varies, so the figure is set per company. Our listing shows $5,000, plus a small $200 sign-up credit.

Who generally qualifies: startups that have raised $10 million or less, use a company website and a matching business email, and have not used DigitalOcean credits before. AI-native startups are prioritized. Consulting, web or app development services and marketing agencies are not eligible.

Rules that decide how much you really get. Credits are forfeited if unspent, cannot be transferred and are not extended. A monthly limit of $10,000 generally applies. GPU Droplets, GPU Kubernetes, bare metal GPUs, inference services and third-party AI models are excluded from core credits, and GPU credits are a separate benefit granted after review.

Beside other clouds in our catalog. AWS lists $5,000 in Activate credits for new users, Scaleway lists up to €36,000 in credits and OVH Cloud lists €10,000. Our catalog also carries a DigitalOcean for AI entry with up to $100,000.

Fits: a seed-stage web or SaaS team on conventional servers. Two 4 GiB Droplets and one 8 GiB Droplet cost $96 a month, or $1,152 a year, which is just under a quarter of a $5,000 balance and leaves room for databases and growth.

Fits: a team that values a human at the other end. The program includes 15 months of Standard-tier support and direct sessions with product managers and engineers.

Fits: a startup with a steady, rising bill. Using a $5,000 credit within 12 months takes about $417 a month, so a product that grows into that level uses it all.

Skip: an AI company that expects the credit to pay for GPUs or model inference. Those are outside core credits, so the bill for them lands on your card.

Skip: an agency or consultancy. Service-based companies are explicitly ineligible.

Skip: a company that has already used DigitalOcean credits, or has raised over $10 million. Both fall outside the stated criteria.

What a $5,000 credit means. A single 4 GiB Droplet costs $288 for a year, so the balance could run about 17 of them for 12 months. A realistic early stack of three Droplets at $96 a month uses $1,152 and forfeits $3,848 at the end of the term. Using the whole credit needs about $417 a month.
